Our 8096 AR is the first compass built specifically for adventure racers. The patented circle-over-circle system gives this compass Eclipse® status, and the UTM roamer scales take this tool to the next level. A global needle makes this compass a world traveler and an extra-thick baseplate ensures strength on the course. This compass includes a latitude, longitude and UTM template for those critical details and is the perfect companion for a GPS.

This compass looks a little different than most, no long needle, only a red circle to point north. This takes a bit of getting used to, but after that, you are good to go. The needle settles faster than any other compass I have and does not bounce around at all. The declination is easy to adjust, but you have to be careful how you adjust the compass or you can change it without knowing. I have had issues with bubbles forming, but they usually disappear. The scales on the bottom rubbed off on my first one because I let it hang around my neck for hundreds of miles while racing. Brunton customer service replaced it no questions asked. I put a piece of clear contact paper on the new one and so far no problems. This is really only an issue if you actually use it to plot points, which I recommend using a dedicated plotter for instead.

I have used the Brunton AR 8096 Compass in a couple of adventure races and it has not led me astray yet. Simple to use and light the adventure racers two requirements. I recommend it!!
